A Most Harmonious Night

Yeah it was sub-zero. So what? The atmosphere was warm and friendly at the Harmony bar last night. By the time I got there around 8:30, Kat and Robin were already setting up. Josh Harty was there and rarin’ to go. Folks were beginning to trickle in to enjoy a good meal before the show.

When Josh started playing, the place was bustling. Josh wasted no time dazzling the crowd with his guitar skills and smooth singing style. He’s a real storyteller, that feller! Blake Thomas joined him for a couple of numbers toward the end of his set and they harmonized beautifully.

By 10:45, the place seemed packed. Capacity is just under 200 and we had over 100 people. It was crowded enough to create a lot of good energy but not so crowded that you couldn’t flail yer elbows.

The strategy was to get the Solid Gold Elbow Dancers going early and keep ‘em going with nothing but up beat tunes. By the third song the dancers had amassed. By the time we lit into our Buzzcocks cover, I could see nothing but blurry bodies zipping across the floor in front of us.

By the time the first set was over, we had countless sizzling guitar solos, a broken drumstick and a sweaty human luv fest going on. Kat had it goin’ on, Robin was slammin’ on the drums and Matthew (though ill and congested) was layin’ out the bass lines like only he can. Did I mention he’s got a new solo CD out?


We started the second set off with Say It, which was sufficiently sappy to get Alison to turn on the spinning disco ball. There was enough slow dancing going on (laaaadieees choice) that I though I was back at the junior high dance….Awwwww!

The first time the four of us played out together was 3 years ago to the month. We ended or last set with one of the first songs we played together, Perfect World. We have always felt appreciated by our friends (and considered ourselves very fortunate). But we really “felt the love” tonight.
