The CD's Dun Bin Released!

Thanks to our wonderful fan base for showing up to fan appreciation night! We love you (and your call is important to us)!

The party was last night at Revolution Cycles on Atwood. Thanks to Jeff and Steve for hosting us. There were over 60 people that night to listen to two sets of Motor Primitives music and celebrate the release of the new CD, Be The Engine. We sold over 50% of our stock in the first night. I guess we underestimated demand.

The night featured Ellyn Ono as 'Julie your cruise director' organizing the impromptu song selection for the first set via the 'wheel of luv'.

The elbow dancers were in good form and great fun was had by all.

Texas Doesn't Love Us!

Hey Gang,
SXSW sent us our official rejection letter. At least they took the time to wish us the best in our musical persuits. Actually, it's impressive that they wrote back at all! Well, unpack your bags 'cause you're staying home.

Think of all the people in Texas who have to live down spawning the likes of GWB AND don't have our music to sooth them. Poor suckers!

Keep your ears open though, we've also applied to NxNE and we are holding one of their countrymen hostage!

Dear Pamela Barrett,

Thank you for submitting music to SXSW in consideration for a showcase. This year, SXSW Music received and reviewed almost 8000 submissions. Unfortunately, this means that we must turn down many artists. With that in mind, we will be unable to offer The Motor Primitives a showcase this year. Please be assured that your materials were given full consideration. We wish you the best in your musical pursuits.

Sincerely,
SXSW Music Festival staff

R U Sick?

Is creating music that no one will hear "sick"?

I had a music teacher encourage me to "get over" being afraid to play in front of people by telling me that not sharing music is socially deviant behavior. His point was, why make music if no one will ever experience it?

I suppose making music not intended to be heard by anyone else can be a kind of "spiritual release" or medicine for the soul. Does that seem a bit selfish? I mean, why kill the buffalo, take only the pelt and leave the carcass to rot? Seems like a waste.

So, I went from not wanting anyone to hear stuff that I'd written (thinking no one would like it) to "yappin'" all over town. Hell, I'd play out every night if I thought people would listen! What great fun it is to play in a band!! We play music, look into the audience and see people smiling and having fun. Now that's medicine for the soul.

Now my goal is to get as many people to listen to our music as I can. Why? Because I think people will enjoy the tunes. We need more enjoyable moments and less sad crap!

So, I want our band to be your musical ear infection. We want to get in there, hunker down, do a little interior decorating and never leave. Is that too much to ask?

I can't remember that teacher's name...Thanks!

Yowza! Another Good Review!

Our Debut CD just got reviewed by Indie-Music.com! (Hey kids, they like us!!!)

Artist: The Motor Primitives
CD: Self-Titled
Home: Madison, Wisconsin
Style: Pop / Rock

By Todd Beemis

As an avid collector of vintage 80's pop/new wave vinyl, I spend hours in thrift stores. And for every twenty Foreigner records, you find one solid gem. I'm pleased to report that The Motor Primitives are like hitting a mother lode of Pretenders, Split Enz, Squeeze... hell, I swear there's even some X in there.

It's probably impossible to write a review of The Motor Primitives without remarking on lead singer Pam Barrett's uncanny channeling of a certain Ms. Chrissy Hynde. That said, hers is much more than a lazy imitation of rock's ultimate supervixen voice - instead, Barrett seems to be saluting a personal heroine while doing a damn fine job of making her own mark on pop rock and roll.

You want glistening, trebley guitars? Check. You want everything from lo-fi rollicks to an almost Martin Denny-esque bossa nova? Check. You want full-on rockers? Well, the Primitives offer those, as well.

Some of the musicianship isn't perfect here, but that's not the point. Fans of timeless party rock will enjoy this CD, and the real winners are those lucky college kids in Madison who get to experience them live - I bet it's a real kick.

These guys are great fun - and they saved me a whole afternoon of rooting in the thrift store record bins because all the sounds I'm looking for are right here, on one CD.
