Puce…Really? Your in!!

Hey everybody! We've just announced the addittion of our new bass player. Below is the announcement. Those of you on our email fan list have already gottten the word. If you'd like to get direct emails informing you of all that is new with the MPs, you can sign up for our list by emailing me at motorprimitivesATgmailDOTcom.

The announcement:

Hello MP Friends,

We have news for you!

We’re pleased to announce an addition to the Motor Primitives family. Mr. Ed Feeny has officially joined the Motor Primitives on bass guitar. Some of you may remember that Ed filled in on bass back in July 2006 when the MPs played a fundraiser for the movie CUT: teens and self injury.

Well, Ed “the Man” Feeny has been rockin’ out on bass for quite some time. You may remember him from such bands as the Appliances-SFB, Reptile Palace Orchestra and Tongue ‘n’ Groove.

Actually, the last two bands are very much alive and kickin’! So, why is he joining another band?
Answer: He’s “the Man!”

Why is he “the Man?”
Answer: ‘Cause we said so!

We recently sat down with Ed…Errr, we mean, “the Man” and asked him a few questions. Here’s how it went:

US: Hey Ed!
ED: Hey what!

US: Where are ya from?
ED: I was born in Monroe, CT. Moved to Madison at nine years old, so that's almost a native. I Graduated from City High School, Madison.

US: How would you describe your bass playing style?
ED: That's a tough one to answer about oneself. Pure genius. Sort of Shaker/Amish/Mission with a dash of euro-contemporary. The best bass player since Robin Davies.

US: What's your favorite color?
ED: Puce! I like to say "puce."

US: Any other info you'd like to share?

- Married almost 20 years to the lovely and talented Suzy. Father of three daughters.
- Day job as a woodworker for TDS Custom Construction, Inc.
- Former luthier - made the bass I play.
- Winner of the 1987 Nobel Prize for the research I did on the detrimental effects of Rock 'n' Roll on achieving a college degree.
- Winner of the 1994 Nobel Prize for researched that proved

A View from Bloggerville & a Video

A blogger/reviewer was at the show Saturday night and had some nice things to say here:
Miss the Signpost

How many different ways are there to misspell Motor Primitives? Here's a few suggestions:
Motor Primitives - Correct
Motor Primatives - Bunches 'o monkeys
Motor Primitaves - Just wrong
Motor Pramitives - English buggy pushers
Motor Primitivas - South American insurgent rockers

No worries. That's not the first time and it won't be the last.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, we bring you Batter Up:

Disclaimer: Yes! I know it's dark. You'll be alright!! And the sound quality is just fine for a microphone the size of a pencil eraser!!

A Most Harmonious Night

Yeah it was sub-zero. So what? The atmosphere was warm and friendly at the Harmony bar last night. By the time I got there around 8:30, Kat and Robin were already setting up. Josh Harty was there and rarin’ to go. Folks were beginning to trickle in to enjoy a good meal before the show.

When Josh started playing, the place was bustling. Josh wasted no time dazzling the crowd with his guitar skills and smooth singing style. He’s a real storyteller, that feller! Blake Thomas joined him for a couple of numbers toward the end of his set and they harmonized beautifully.

By 10:45, the place seemed packed. Capacity is just under 200 and we had over 100 people. It was crowded enough to create a lot of good energy but not so crowded that you couldn’t flail yer elbows.

The strategy was to get the Solid Gold Elbow Dancers going early and keep ‘em going with nothing but up beat tunes. By the third song the dancers had amassed. By the time we lit into our Buzzcocks cover, I could see nothing but blurry bodies zipping across the floor in front of us.

By the time the first set was over, we had countless sizzling guitar solos, a broken drumstick and a sweaty human luv fest going on. Kat had it goin’ on, Robin was slammin’ on the drums and Matthew (though ill and congested) was layin’ out the bass lines like only he can. Did I mention he’s got a new solo CD out?

We started the second set off with Say It, which was sufficiently sappy to get Alison to turn on the spinning disco ball. There was enough slow dancing going on (laaaadieees choice) that I though I was back at the junior high dance….Awwwww!

The first time the four of us played out together was 3 years ago to the month. We ended or last set with one of the first songs we played together, Perfect World. We have always felt appreciated by our friends (and considered ourselves very fortunate). But we really “felt the love” tonight.

Heatin' up the Harmony Bar

He all!
It's -5 degrees F and dropping. The show will start in just under 4 hours! This is the show that we say goodbye to Kat and Matthew. We're going to celebrate the last 3 years of Harmonious rock and roll at the Harmony bar and, yes, we're ready to throw down! We're gonna play everything we know.

Josh Harty's opening for us and I just love his music.

Thanks to everybody that has supported us over the past 3 years. Though it's sad to be losing Kat and Matthew, I'm excited for the future of the Motor Primitives. We're working on a new sound and will be announcing new band mates soon.

But for now, let's rock out like we know we can!
